Recordings Fractured TimeFractured Time, Robert Silverman's ninth CD marks a new direction and vision for the group and the music integrated together on one album. The Nantucket Suite was composed for the quintet in Nantucket and features three movements inspired by the Island. There are also three meditative solo piano pieces including Mr. Silverman's first recorded foray into Yiddish music, Papirosen, originally composed in Poland about orphans selling cigarettes for food. Summer Nocturne, the center piece of the CD is a Chopin-like meditation in C with a bridge, lilting and sombre but also joyful. Starting Over is a tribute to Spring and was chosen for Israeli Independence Day. There are notable performances on the CD by tenor man James " Doc " Halliday who brings the compositions to life. Ethan Basche on acoustic bass on Eliza and Dr T, and the electric bassist Steven Dash who powers the rest of the quintet tunes. Andy Bassford adds some tasty guitar solos and Scott Hamilton commands the drums throughout. Mr Silverman's voice is smokey on the only standard Night and Day and his piano is expressive throughout. The CD is fine for anyone who enjoys straight ahead jazz mixed with thoughtful solo piano pieces. Recorded in NYC at Lowfish Studios and Mastered by Ted Jensen. Artwork by Nancy and Leah Puklin. The CD is available for $15 including mailing at 255 Fieldston Terrace #4H Bronx, NY 10471 or by calling 718-432-7111
